Overview
The paucity of funds occasioned by the fiscal challenges faced by governments at every level in Nigeria (and indeed the rest of Africa) has posed great threats to public institutions’ ability to make reasonable progress in their attempts to drive productivity, economic prosperity and transformation in the 21st century. The situation is made worse by lack of sound and innovative accounting and financial management practices in many public institutions.
In the face of financial constraints, the leadership of our government institutions and departments – Commissioners, Directors, Heads of Department, Permanent Secretaries, Registrars, and other senior officials must be well-equipped with necessary skills and competence to deal with financial matters in more creative and innovative ways – especially considering that many of these leaders do not have finance or accounting background.
This programme is specially designed to assist senior public officials (irrespective of their academic or professional background) to acquire requisite accounting and finance skills for sound decision making as well as enhancing innovative financial management practices in fostering the development on these institutions.
